The Garda Lake
The Garda Lake (also known as Benaco Lake) is the biggest Italian lake, with a perimeter of 162 square kilometers and a surface of 370 square kilometers. It is located in the Northern part of Italy, between the the regions Lombardia, Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige. Inside the lake there are four little islands, the Island of Garda being the biggest one. The weather around the lake is mild and favors a Mediterranean type of vegetation such as cypresses, palms, laurels , and magnolias, as well as olive and citrus trees. There are two highways that run along the eastern and western shores of the lake. One of these roads, the Gardesana is divided into two branches: the eastern one that leads to Peschiera and Desenzano following the Trentino and Verona's shores, and the western one that runs along Trento's and Brescia's shores.
Thanks to the mild weather and the beautiful landscapes, the Garda Lake is a very popular destination for tourists. There are plenty of little towns to visit, such as Sirminione, Salò, Garda, Bardolino, Peschiera, and many others.
